How much do I LOVE Robot Chicken? I would totally go see an Opera about the Wrath of Kahn. In fact, somebody should really get on top of producing that one because it is dripping with 13 kinds of awesome.

The Ultimate Blog (?)
Dec 17th, 2008 by Will
Check out this blog. It’s full of rude language and snarky comments about cute pictures of animals. That’s pretty much the holy trinity of the Internet right there. Did I mention the language is rude? Yeah, if you don’t like swear words, this one may not be for you.
Getty Villa Art Festival
Dec 6th, 2008 by Will
The Getty Villa put on some kind of Greek family festival today. I went because a group called The Boxtales was going to be reenacting stories from Homer’s Odyssey. They were surprisingly good, and now I’m thinking I want to try to see one of their longer “adult” shows.
I also went because the Getty Villa is gorgeous, so naturally I took a bunch of photos.
Carrot Clarinet
Nov 17th, 2008 by Will
Just when I think I must have seen everything the internet has to offer, along comes a video of a guy who carves a carrot into a clarinet. He plays it, and it sounds great to my unsophisticated MP3 tuned ears.
It reminds me of when I was a kid and in kindergarten or preschool or something. One day we took a field trip, which consisted of walking to some guy’s house. This guy took a stick off a tree and carved it into a flute or whistle or something like that. Blew me away. I always wanted to be able to do that, but to this day, I’m not sure how he did it.
Now, the thing you need to know about me to really appreciate this story is that I remember virtually nothing from my childhood. So, the fact that I remember this day at all is an indication of how deeply imprinted the experience was on my psyche. I don’t know why I remember that day out of all the days I’ve forgotten, but it really made a deep and lasting impact. I think the guy also braided some twine into a rope or something. I should really be able to do stuff like that. If a preschool teacher walked a bunch of kids over to my house, I’d have absolutely nothing cool to show them.
Toshiba Timesculpture Ad

This ad from Toshiba is crazy.
I think I understand how they must have done it, but I’m overwhelmed by the amount of time and money it must have taken.
Interview with voice of MarsPhoenix Twitter feed, Veronica McGregor
Nov 11th, 2008 by Will
Check out this interesting interview with Veronica McGregor, the voice of the MarsPhoenix twitter feed. It’s amazing what they’re doing in terms of outreach and personalizing the missions for the public. I like that she is developing different personalities for each of the missions.
I went to check out a bunch of spiders at the Los Angeles Natural History Museum. I was hoping there’d be a bit more variety/color, and I kind of wish I hadn’t just sold my macro lens, but you can see a few spider pictures. It was kind of a fun Halloween type of thing to do.
That’s a Lot of Young America
Oct 24th, 2008 by Will
For the past 11 months, I’ve been listening to The Sound of Young America podcasts. Today, I finally made my way to the end of their back-catalog of archived episodes. That’s 256 episodes in 11 months. Assuming 30 minutes per episode that’s more than 128 hours, and that’s a pretty conservative estimate since many of their episodes are an hour or more.
I’m shocked that I spend that much time in my car. Work is all of 5 minutes away from home (15 if I’m walking), so where have I been doing all that driving?
I should probably flip Jesse a few bucks for the entertainment and then get started on the back-catalog of This American Life episodes that have been accumulating on my iPod.
