Camera Mail

The idea of Camera Mail is very interesting. Attach a disposable camera to a post card with instructions to US Postal Works to take photos of themselves and their work place to document the progress of the mail as it makes its way across the country. The results are a little disappointing, but worth a quick look if you’re at all interested.

I feel like I’m missing something with Wang Qingsong’s China Kaleidoscope series (NSFW due to a bunch of artistic nudity). The huge panoramic shots are gorgeous and obviously set up and posed with great care. I don’t quite understand the story though. I recognize a lot of poses from some classic artworks in the final one. Maybe the others are a similar kind of thing (?) or maybe there’s just a cultural chasm that I can’t quite get across. via

The blood and gore and dead animal images are a bit disturbing, but some of these pictures are completely arresting. I love the stuffed bear with the exposed brains. Not sure what that says about me, but there you go.

Frank Horvat

Wow! Frank Horvat knows a think or two about making photographs. Really nice stuff.

Exactitudes is an interesting look at lots of people wearing basically the same thing. The index page is a bit too small for my tastes, and I don’t like the way the thumbnails re-order themselves on every page view, but all in all, it’s an interesting project.

Faces Behind the Polls

True Americans is a site that aims to show you the people behind the polls. Didn’t seem to be too many surprises, but it’s an interesting idea. Maybe if they can get more photos.

Goodbye Romania

This:

Warning - by visiting this site, you will destroy it. Each visit will remove one pixel from these photographs. However, we will tell you a story. It’s a story about Romania, which is to say, it’s a story about change.

…is an interesting idea.

When I saw the photo collages that the Claire character did in this season’s Six Feet Under, I was very intrigued. First because I thought they were original and highly compelling images. But, more importantly I was curious about whether that technique was developed as a plot point or if the show appropriated somebody else’s work. I really liked the idea of some production assistant/wannabe artist coming up with this incredible photographic technique, so I was hoping it was developed just for the show.

It turns out that it was the work of LA artist David Meanix. To judge from the Salon article, it hasn’t created much in the way of exposure for him yet. That’s kind of too bad.

1,000 Words

I’m not a huge fan of the goofy frame driven layout (what is this — 1998 people). But, I love the concept behind A Picture’s Worth. Most certainly worth a look or two.

Lost America

I want to shoot pictures like the stuff Troy Paiva is doing in his Lost America night photography series. Some of these images are just … wow!
