Exploring Creativity

Common Desk (QuickTime) is a fantastic, and really long examination of creativity. Incorporates ads and various media from various sources. Really great. via

Writer’s Guide

Writerisms and other Sins: A Writer’s Shortcut to Stronger Writing by C.J. Cherryh:

As a general rule … your viewpoint characters should have less, rather than more, description than anyone else: a reader of different skin or hair color ought to be able to sink into this persona without being continually jolted by contrary information.

Hey, I loved Cyteen, so clearly she knows of what she speaks.

Chaos Theory

Chaos Theory - 2 is a goofy little flash game. I’ve gotten up to 103 so far.

Holy Mother of Rush

I cannot even begin to imagine the amount of work that went into this, but Bobby Standridge actually created a CGI version of Neil Peart playing YYZ (Direct link to the 43 MB WMV File).

First of all, I’ve always loved Rush, so mad props for having fantastic taste.

Second of all, I never knew where the name YYZ came from (Toronto Airport Code), so that’s kind of cool.

Third of all, can I just say again, holy crap that must have taken a lot of work (he says it took him 1 1/2 years). Labor of love my friends. Labor of freaking love!

My hat’s off to you dude. You’re nuts.

Crash the Trailer

OK, the movie, The Wedding Crashers, doesn’t look all that interesting to me, but I gotta say that the Crash the Trailer viral ad that they whipped up is Awesome! You upload pictures of yourself or whomever, and they superimpose the pictures onto the faces of the stars of the movie. Very clever, or at least kind of fun for a second.

RSS For Contact Management

I love the idea of something like RSSContact.com, but I don’t think anybody I know is geek enough to actually subscribe to whatever contact channel I might create. Hell, I’m not even geek enough to subscribe to somebody else’s channel.

It’s like PGP for e-mail. I’d love to use it, but I can’t for reasons of practicality.

I thought I’d posted an article about How to photograph fireworks with a digital camera before. I know I’ve read it before. It turns out that no, I hadn’t posted it, so here you go. Oh, and more links here.

Ooooh, Shiny!

After seeing a bit of the sparkler fun on Flickr, I’m thinking I need to pick up some sparklers for the fourth. Nice.

OK, it’s not really The Princess Bride, but The Duel (QuickTime) is an amusing little animation of a couple of swashbucklers having themselves a good old-fashioned sword fight.
