Wow! It’s just like Quicksilver only without Kevin Bacon or a hotdog stand. I’ve only watched one movie so far, The Bronx Race, but if the other videos of New York bike messengers are anything like that one, then I have to say that these guys are completely and totally nuts! This dude almost gets hit like 20 times.

I went to the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles today. My main goal was to take Pictures of Butterflies.
The Pavilion of Wings was OK. It was a little smaller than I expected. I don’t know why I assumed there’d be some giant field with wild butterflies everywhere, but it’s basically just a tiny little one room tent kind of thing. Once I thought about it, that made more sense, but it did leave me without much in the way of variety for photo opportunities.
That didn’t stop me from filling an entire 512 Meg card, and leaving barely any space for images of the rest of the museum. Butterflies move a lot, so you need to set you camera to rapid fire to get anything like a good shot, and rapid fire eats through photos like nobody’s business.
Since I was there already, I decided to explore the museum proper. And let me just say that LA: light / motion / dreams is a remarkable audio visual installation that provides several interesting perspectives on Los Angeles history. If you’re in the area and of an artistic or historic bent, go out of your way to see this show. It’s really very well done.

You know, if I was better at spelling and word games and such, I bet I could break out of the middle of the pack on a game like WEBoggle. It’s fun though.

Abnormal Behavior Child looks a like a mildly interesting flash movie at first, but stay with it. It gets much more interesting. via

I desperately want to find a video like A Look at Letterpress interesting. On some level, I’m able to do that. Mostly though, I find it incredibly ponderous. I suspect somehow (but can’t know for certain) that they’d feel the same way about me, so I guess it all works out.
If you’re into type though, it is worth seeing if only for the historical gee whiz elements about it. Still, it would have been better if Huell Howser was doing the interview.

If you have a chance to see the movie, Garden State, and you like off-beat sort of semi-dark dramas, then get yourself to a theater. I liked it a bunch. You know that feeling when you’re with a group of friends, particularly friends you haven’t seen in a while, and you feel kind of disconnected from everything that’s happening around you, and you’re not sure you really quite belong? Yeah, this movie knows that feeling too and it captures it beautifully.

A month ago, I got a flat tire. I had them patch it. Last night, the patch failed and left me with a flat tire.
I hobbled to the nearest gas station and put in air, then drove to the garage that put on the patch. I got there at 5:50. They close at 6. I told the guy — I know you don’t have time to fix it, but could you put on my spare for me, then I’ll leave the tire with you, and you can fix it tomorrow.
The asshole told me he didn’t have time to put on the spare. With their power jacks and power wrenches, it would have taken him all of 2 minutes. He could have changed 4 tires, and still had time to wash his hands and then shove a big old lug wrench up his butt where it belongs.
So, I filled my tire up with way too much air, and thankfully, there was still just enough left in it this morning to hobble over to a gas station for more air.
Then I went to A DIFFERENT F’ING GARAGE to buy a new tire.
Oh, and my car’s AC is on the fritz too. I’m pretty sure it’s just a loose wire, but the shop told me I need a new AC blower motor. So, basically, a fan. And how much do you supposed a fan costs? If you guessed under $200 you’d be totally wrong. I’m going to take it to somebody else for a second oppinion. I’m pretty sure it’s just a loose wire.

I imagine you’ve all already seen it by now, but in case you haven’t, Subservient President is funny.

Warren Buffett offers an interesting idea to curb the USA trade deficit. I doubt it would happen — certainly not in our current climate.
The problem as I see it is that US politics doesn’t reward long-term thinking. I don’t know how you change that. I’m sure that we should though.
