I had plans to go hiking early this morning. Those plans got cancelled at the last minute (though not before my alarm rudely yanked me out of a deep sleep at about 10 minutes to ungodly in the AM).
I could have gone anyway, but I sort of had it in my head to go check out the LA Zoo. I’d never been before.
Now, some people may have thought twice before trekking up to Glendale on a blistering hot sunny day. Those people are much, much wiser than me. It was crazy hot, and I found myself slinking from shade pool to shade pool. Sadly, many of the animals seemed to be in the wiser than me category. They weren’t exactly out in force. Strangely, many seemed to prefer sleeping the day away in the cooler areas of their cages rather than frolicking for me in the heat of the day. There were a few though, and yes, I took pictures.

Robert Scoble has some Interesting Thoughts on Persuasion.
I’m half tempted to get Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion which is linked in the comments. Except I know it would sit on a shelf collecting dust while I read everything but that. I want to read those kinds of books. I’ve even purchased several of those kinds of books. Somehow, I’m never in the mood when I’m putting one book away and starting another though.

I’d never heard of Bob Schneider until somebody linked his site off of MeFi. I’m really liking it though. I’m not sure if it’s the music (although that sounds great in a Pete Yorn, Rocker Singer Songwriter kind of way) or the sense of humor/interesting interface that the site seems to have.
It’s all flash and bandwidth intensive, but it creates a great way to experience the music. He’s in West Hollywood at The Roxy on May 19th. I may just need to go check him out live.
Some guy wired a camera up to a clock radio snooze button. What results is a whole lot of photos of him stuck between sleeping and waking. it’s an interesting project, but it’s a hard one to link to. Go to CBC Radio 3, click the photo, then click on Snooze Button.

If you’re in the Los Angeles area, and you enjoy art, you might want to swing by the Santa Fe Art Colony this weekend. They’re having their annual open studio May 1 and 2. I went today, and it was really good.
I’ve been to the Brewery Art Walk a few times, but that’s so big that I always leave feeling bad because I don’t think I was able to take everything in. The Santa Fe Art Colony seems a bit more compact, and there aren’t quite so many people, but there’s still a lot of really good work being done there.
