UCLA Sculpture Garden

Today I took a tour of the UCLA sculpture garden. It wasn’t quite what I expected, but it was still pretty cool. Yes, I had my camera with me.

Slate’s article How Widescreen Won talks about the way that letterbox has beat out full-screen as the movie format of choice.
One of my old blog entries cursed the full-screen format, and there’s a minor debate going on in the comments as transitory users happen upon it as a result of one google search or another. To which I say ha! In your face full screen fans.

Man, that new Counting Crows song from the Shrek 2 Soundtrack is trying so hard to be an Elvis Costello song it borders on painful. I actually like a bunch of the Counting Crows stuff, and I love love LOVE Elvis Costello. Those two just do not go well together though.
As long as I’m spouting off about music, for the record (you know ’cause I’m sure everybody cares about what I’m listening to these days) I do really like that Franz Ferdinand song, “Take Me Out”. So much so in fact that I went out and well let’s say sampled the rest of the album on a Usenet Binary group, and I’m sorry to say that I’m not as onboard with a lot of the rest of record.

Every American, every patriot, needs to read this Al Gore Speech. For the good of the United States of America, this is a message that we all, each and every one of us, must take to heart.

There’s an amazing botanical garden right in my backyard. I didn’t even know it was there, but if you live in the Torrance, Rancho Palos Verdes area, you have to check it out. It’s just off Crenshaw a little south (?) of PCH.
It’s vast and gorgeous, and I hear it’s going to be closing down in a few months due to budget cuts. That’s really too bad. I only wish I’d known about this place sooner. Anyway, check out the photos.

I took a hike up Mount Hollywood in Griffith Park today. It was kind of smoggy or foggy or just some kind of oggy. I took photos anyway, so here they are in all their hazy glory.

I want to shoot pictures like the stuff Troy Paiva is doing in his Lost America night photography series. Some of these images are just … wow!

I’m not typically a big fan of high glamour photography. However, some of Miles Aldridge’s images are truly remarkable.

Monkey was an old Japanese show that spawned the infinitely remixable Monkey Magic.
Reminds me a little of Queens “Flash Gordon” only you know with monkeys and stuff. How can you not love a song with a throw away line like “You’re not a god, you’re a birthday cake!”?
If anybody has a video to go along with one of these mixes, let me know –it could only be spectacular. Thanks Beth. You’re my hero.
