That just doesn’t make any sense at all. They have to be equal. They just have to be! But, according to the Scientific American article: The Future of String Theory, they may not be at very, super, ridiculously small sizes. It turns out my entire world view may be a bit blurry. The stuff I can actually see is so big it doesn’t matter, but Damn!

Thanks for the linkto this. Am currently reading “Our Elegant Universe” and am glad to see Greene as a fleshy person-type thing.
Nova did a 3 part special starring Greene. They already aired this week and last week, but you may still be able to catch them in re-run.
If you haven’t seen them, and you’re interested in this kind of stuff be sure to look out for them - fascinating though a bit dumbed down relative to the article I linked above and (I’m assuming) his book.
