People are Dumb

Well, with less than half of the precincts reporting, it looks like at least 2 million people in my state have questionable judgment and are perfectly willing to subvert democracy. I know Davis is a clod, but he was a duly elected clod. This thing was obviously a mistake, and I fully expect everybody to wake up in a month or two and feel more than a little sick about the whole thing.

What’s worse, at least 1.7 million (and you have to figure it’ll actually be about twice that many) are actually insane. I don’t get it. How do you look at that guy’s idiotic ads and actually vote for him? No, seriously … how?!

Let’s put aside the womanizing. Let’s forget about admiring Hitler. Hey, he was young, and who knows if it’s even true. His opponent fights dirty. It’s all just politics after all. Let’s also forget about the fact that he can’t articulate a plan for the future. Forget about all of that for just a minute, and just look at his ads. His ads should show him in the best light possible. This is the message he wants to bring to the people. His message made him look stupid. No, seriously. his ads were so bad I assumed they were parodies.

Why given that would anybody much less a plurality (or, oh my god it looks like it might be a majority) vote for the guy?

Painting with Light

Wow, the stuff PIPS:lab is doing is really interesting. I assume the lighting effects are being digitally added later. It sure would be cool if they were done at the time the photos were taken though. Anyway, check it out. It’s really quite interesting.

Update: I take it back. After looking closer, I think the lighting effects are done at the time the photos are taken. They must open the shutter in a totally dark room, paint a design with light, then pop a strobe to capture the artists without any kind of motion blur. Very, very cool!

Oooh Pretty

Tim Davis’ Close-up Photos of trains are spectacular. They are some of the nicest, most organic looking abstracts I’ve seen in a while.

Thanks Amberglow.

I shouldn’t enjoy these songs as much as I do.

Icky

I’m not generally one to rail against musicians selling out to advertisers. I have to say though, there is just something so wrong about hearing a Cure song in a TV ad. I’m not even an exceptionally huge cure fan. It took “Friday I’m in Love” to even be able to develop an appreciation for Robert Smith’s vocals. Still, it just seems wrong.
