First let me start with some background. I worked with Kjell Sandved for many years, he is an elderly gentleman now. When I first saw the job opening with him, I was dumbfounded. I assumed the knowledge I could gain from him would be priceless. I soon found out how mistaken I was. He has indeed found the letters on the wings of butterflies. Many of the pictures in the posters that you see are fabrications, he paints his slides to fill out certain letters, he uses computer programs to change things, and many of the butterflies pictures you see, have indeed been killed, and are just propped up for photgraphic purposes. I was appalled when I learned all of this, and am ashamed to have this man as a reference on my resume.
My dear Joseph (whoever you may be):
I really do not know what to make of your comments on the Butterfly Alphabet of Kjell Sandved, the elderly gentleman (he will be 82 in October)…so…….let ME start with some background:
If (and I say IF) you ever worked with Sandved, it was not in the USA for many years. He has only been here since 1960, and I know the name of everyone who worked with him.
The closeup slides of butterfly wings were taken using a scanning electron microscope, and closeup lenses. I have handled the original slides many times and they are NOT painted at all!
It is true, however, that some of the butterflies were dead when photographed, but they are, in fact, TYPE SPECIMENS from the Smithsonian’s collection. No one could possibly photograph a live butterfly that closeup!!!!!!As for computer - Mr. Sandved cannot BOOT a computer, much less use one to make changes. AND…these slides have been in existence since before computers were widely used.
I am writing this not to defend Mr. Sandved, but only to correct the errors in your comments. Before you try to destroy someone, be sure of your sources of information.
Devon,
I appreciate your opinions on the subject. Yes the original slides were not painted, but everything I had handled while employed with him were painted. He had a plate with watercolor paint on it, a little brush, and a microscope type device with a lightbox.
He may not be able to BOOT a computer (lol) but he sure knows how to hire people to do the job for him. Look at the Naturealphabet poster. You will notice many pictures in there, that are (or soon will be) available on his website that have different backgrounds, and are overly manipulated.
As an example, the letter K. the rock was removed from the original background and placed haphazardly on a new background.
To correct you, I am not trying to destroy the man, but I do think that he is misrepresenting himself, and flat out lying about certain things. And when he states on his website, over and over again that he had not killed any butterflies, that is a lie.
