Sixteen Pages

Hmm… Not quite sure what to make of Sixteen Pages. It’s incredibly interesting and fun to explore though.

GooglePeople

Well, this can’t be good:

GooglePeople is not sure it found the answer to your question “who is will raleigh“, but listed below are some possibilities to investigate.
  • Selle Royal
  • Saddam Hussein
  • Angus Turnbull

Readerware

I am SO tempted to get This:

  1. Database for Tracking Books, CDs and DVD’s
  2. Automatically Assembles Cover Art and Information from Internet DataSources
  3. Works with Mac (and windows, linux, palm)
  4. Free CueCat Barcode Scanner (I knew I shouldn’t have thrown those out…)

$85 though - that’s about 2 times what I’d like it to be. I’m tempted though. I have shelves and shelves of books, and like any good geek, I’d love to get all that data into nice searchable, manipulatable little boxes.

The Sharpeworld Experience

Whoa, they are assembling bucket-loads of multi-media magic over on Sharpeworld.com. You know how you feel when watching public access TV, and on the one hand you’re filled with ironic detachment and horrified pity, and on the other hand you’re genuinely entertained and fascinated by what you’re seeing? Yeah, I think it’s a little like that yo.

Collected Visions

I’ll probably lose myself for hours and hours exploring the Collected Visions site:

Welcome to Collected Visions. Over 2,500 images are in our searchable archive of family snapshots. 200 + photo essays exploring how photographs shape our memories are posted in the CV Gallery, the CV Museum, and Positive Visions. Please contribute your stories and photographs or create essays inspired by the images in our archive.

Nice, nice, nice. I have a bit of a voyeuristic streak in me, so this is all good stuff.

Creating Graphs with Flash

Just want to book mark This for later — in case our development resources free up a bit.

Howl at the Moon

For the past few weeks, upon waking, I’ve found myself feeling tired and my mouth tasting like ass.

I can think of nothing to explain those symptoms better than a little mystical, late-night canine carousing. Of course, I can’t be sure, but it seems like there’s a fairly good chance I may be a werewolf.

The internet is surprisingly not helpful. I found this page. And, for the fetishists amongst us (at least it seemed on first glance to be fetish - they’re playing it remarkably straight though), this looks promising. Not much else though. I think I may just have to set up a camera and see what happens at night. My only real concern is — what if my image can’t be captured on film?

Background Checks on CD-RW

Ha! It’s funny because it’s true (or soon will be).

MP3 Jukebox?

Anybody know if there’s a way to hack a Tivo box (in particular a DirectTV Tivo box) so that it can serve as an MP3 jukebox? It seems like this is one of the first hacks that people would have put in place, but whenever I go searching for a way to do it, I can’t ever seem to find it. Who’s going to do Caller ID before they do MP3 Jukeboxes — seriously, who?

I was reminded of my desire for this again because I came across Yahaha’s CDR-HD1300, a stereo component with 80GB hard drive built in. I was interested until I realized it costs $800 which is a good $300 too much in my book. Also, it doesn’t seem to support MP3s. I mean please, do they really think I’m going to re-rip all of my CDs at this point? Why in this day and age do you build something like this and not support MP3s? Idiotic, anti-consumer copyright zealots. I also don’t think it can connect to the CDDB, so you get to type out all of the album and track info yourself. Really, really just ridiculously dumb.

Big Yellow Taxi

The first couple years that I was in California, I lived in Playa del Rey. It’s a quiet little beach community within spitting distance of Venice. A lot of times on the weekends, I would head into Venice to have a late breakfast at Van Gogh’s Ear. That’s this eclectic, kind of artsy dive of a restaurant. Great food, great atmosphere, just an all around great experience.

Well, today I had to drive up Santa Monica way, so I figured I’d make a day of it, hit Van Gogh’s Ear, walk along the beach, take some pictures. I’m so bummed. I think they may have torn down Van Gogh’s Ear and put up a parking garage.

I’m not 100% sure because it was always kind of tough to spot, and today, I drove past before I even knew I was on top of it. Still, it sure seems to be gone. I’ve been in California less than 8 years, and they’re already tearing down my heritage. Joni Mitchel was right what with the paradise, and the paving and the parking lot. I better hit the Apple Pan tomorrow before it’s too late (local burger joint, I’ve never been, but hear it is the can’t miss must experience spot of all California spots).

Anyway, here are the pictures I took. At least Santa Monica is still there. If anybody knows of any spots like Van Gogh’s Ear in the South Bay (LA) area, please let me know.
