Can MeFi Push Trackback Over the Top
July 20th, 2002 by Will
Starvos is wondering whether the addition of Trackback to MeFi is going to provide some critical mass (link). I think it might. I also think that when they release a tool to thread discussions over blogs trackback’s utility will become clearer and use will dramatically escalate. Until then, it’s mostly just an automated referral log kind of thing. I don’t have much else to say about this, but since my first two external trackback attempts have failed, I want to see if third time’s the charm, or if it’s a problem with my own settings. Do you see me looking at you WonderChicken?

Success!!!
My trackback made it over onto empty bottle. So, it’s clearly not my settings. Why o why does MetaFilter forsake me then and refuse to hear my quiet yet respectful pings? Why are you stringing me along MeFi. If you just “want to be friends”, then tell me and get it over with. The pain of rejection isn’t a fraction of the pain of getting jerked around like this. I’m nobody’s safety date Goddamnit!!!
Ugh sorry, for a minute there I was back in high school. Carry on.
I see you, Will.
And quit it - I’m getting all bashful!
I reckon the rigamarole you need to go through to set up a trackback ping is still too clumsy, but I’m too lazy to thing up anything better….
*think*, even.
I’ve got the movable type bookmarklet that finds the ping addresses and handles it all in the background. Nothing clumsy about it, it’s just that since MeFi was my second external ping attempt and they both failed, I was afraid it was something I was doing. Clearly not though.
Other people can ping MeFi. I wonder if MeFi doesn’t like the fact I bumped my excerpt text up to 100 words instead of the default 20.
