One Word

One Word is a VERY cool concept in stream of conscience writing.

simple. you'll see one word at the top of the following page.

you have sixty seconds to write about it.

as soon as you click 'go' the page will load with the cursor in place.

don't think. just write.

Sounds easy right? Yeah, no, not at all. A 60 second time limit is a lot of pressure. It's like those dreams where you find yourself in class, and you are taking a test, but you can't remember any of the answers, and then the words start dancing the tango and the lambada, and then you're naked, and then...(er ugh ... I assume ... I've certainly never had a dream like that)

Plus, I can't write without thinking. Literally, I can't do it. I'm all about the editing and self-correcting. That's one of many reasons that I hate Instant Messaging. In 60 seconds, I spent most of my time backing up to remove thoughts or to fix typos. I know that's not the way it's supposed to go. I'll have to work on that, but there it is.

Plus, what's with forcing everything to lowercase? I was trying to fill out the contact information before posting my entry, and I couldn't because my site is running on a server that is case sensitive. This address: http://raleighnet.org/Speak/ is very different from http://raleighnet.org/speak/. One works and one won't. I'm sure I could (should) fix that, but I don't have access to the server, and it's not that big an issue for me (plus I don't know unix so good, and I don't know how).

But, for all of that, very cool idea.
